Connecting to VPNs and Running Updates

Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet before trying to connect to a VPN.

Checking for and running updates is the first troubleshooting you should do if you are unable to connect to a VPN. You can run updates from the Software Center as long as you have an Internet connection.

You know for sure that you need to run updates for access to the Cisco VPN if you notice a red dot on the MetaDefender Endpoint icon in your taskbar  or if you receive an OPSWAT/MetaDefender EndPoint/security error when trying to connect to the Cisco VPN.

Please follow the Connecting to the Big IP VPN and Running Updates instructions linked below.

If after running updates, the dot on the MetaDefender Endpoint icon is still red or you get another security error message when trying to connect, please do the following:

  • Restart your laptop
  • Connect to the Big IP VPN
  • Right-mouse click on the MetaDefender Endpoint icon and click on the Recheck Compliance option
  • It may take 15 minutes, but the dot should turn green
  • If you still have problems, please contact Lori

You will not be able to use Advance, Advancement Performance, or print at 2420 without the Cisco VPN. You can, however, connect to Outlook, the UVA Health network, and EverTrue using the Big IP VPN.

Software

Our office has a support contract with UVA Health IT (HIT). Our laptops have HIT approved/HIPAA compliant applications on them. You can reach out to HIT for help with software and hardware issues, but if HIT concludes that the problem can only be resolved with a laptop reimage, Lori should be contacted. Lori will give you a loaner laptop while she reimages your current laptop.

Software applications: What credentials to use and Who to contact for help

If you're interested in using a software application not listed on the linked document above, please contact Lori or Tyler. We have restrictions on the software applications that we can install on our laptops.
