Welcome to TekTok

Welcome to TekTok, a new Take 5 section where we will share interesting “technofi” related information including tips on emerging technologies and applications and share the fundamentals of new developments in our platforms, including how generative technologies can enhance our work. If there’s a tool or app you’d like to share with us, please email David Pinker (djp4cr) and Chris Mercincavage (cwb9ga).

In this first edition, we are sharing an AI app that Isaac Stephenraj from the Darden Foundation turned us on to: Pi, your personal AI. Pi stands for Personal Intelligence – “Pi can be a coach, confidante, creative partner or sounding board…” Download it, try it, and remember, don’t put University data or privileged information into any open platform.

Pi was created by Inflection AI, which is a Public Benefit Corporation; a type of corporate entity that aims to produce both profit for its shareholders and a positive impact on society, the environment, or a specific public benefit. Pi utilizes Conversational AI, which enables computers to simulate human-like interactive dialogues through text and voice.

The Inflection AI team includes some of the industry’s top AI experts who previously worked at LinkedIn, DeepMind, Google, Meta, Microsoft and OpenAI. It was founded by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, in partnership with Mustafa Suleyman,  Karén Simonyan.

Inflection AI is not working towards Artificial General Intelligence. They believe that advanced applied AI is the safest way to harness the benefits of these new technologies and have partnered with the White House on AI safety.

So then, what is Artificial General Intelligence?  Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a hypothetical form of artificial intelligence that possesses human-like cognitive abilities, such as the ability to learn, reason, solve problems, and communicate in natural language. It is a branch of theoretical AI research that aims to develop AI with a human level of cognitive function, including the ability to self-teach. AGI is a primary goal of some AI research and companies such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Anthropic.
